The Tower of Pisa, Italy, is one of the most beautiful buildings and strangest of the world. Defying the architectural rules, the Tower of Pisa leans now approximately 4.50 m from the vertical and tilts more towards the south each year. The old building over 800 years looks almost since its construction.
The first stone of the Leaning Tower was laid in August 1174. Many architects, and contractors working on its construction. But shortly after the completion of the first stage, Pisa tower begins to lean towards the south. The culprit is the sagging foundations. To compensate, the upper floors are built closer to the vertical, to straighten the tower. The work is laborious; architects and project managers or lose interest or are overwhelmed by the tilt problem.
Meanwhile, Pisa tower continues to lean dangerously. More radical solutions are found beings, otherwise the whole edifice will collapse.
One of the most ingenious is to the greatest pillars south and north, to redress the construction. The Leaning Tower was completed in 1350; when the bells of the room it adds, it is also built at an angle calculated to offset potential future subsidence. The heaviest bells are installed on the north side. But the Tower of Pisa always leans toward the south.
Fortunately, no other floor comes worse. Otherwise, the
center of gravity would be moved out of the base of the tower of Pisa and the whole edifice would have collapsed. The region is the source of all these problems Pisa is located on a large alluvial plain and progressive collapse is a phenomenon
current in the city.
The famous leaning tower of Pisa is cylindrical; It has eight floors of vaulted arches of white marble. Its current height is 56 m, although originally it was higher: the collapse has not only tipped, but sink into the ground. Modern technology helps to stabilize and it may move less than a millimeter per year.
But even at this rate, in 175 years, it will fall, reduced to the status of rubble.
