Pompeii
Ancient city of Campania, Pompeii was located 25 miles southeast of Naples, at the foot of Mount Vesuvius volcano. In 79 AD. AD during an eruption of the volcano, it was suddenly buried under a layer of lapilli and ash. Life suddenly stopped, but far from destroyed Pompeii was somehow petrified and tragic event has preserved the true picture of this city. We found there, beside the body of its inhabitants, surprised and frozen in their daily lives, the tools they used, furniture and other decorative items. The buildings have been preserved almost intact.
The city was forgotten for nearly 1700 years. In 1748 excavations began, but after 1870 the archaeological exploration really began. Since 1924, we use the method stratigraphic evolution of the ruins, which, starting with the roof, let each object, each mural to its original place. This method allows to introduce ourselves Pompeii under its original appearance, and it's a great show. The exceptional circumstances of the burial have uncovered the shape of wooden objects, trees, human bodies and animals, molding imprints left by the decomposition of organic matter. Buildings, streets, paintings, graffiti, archaeologists give information of incomparable richness, which thus allow better know and understand the customs, institutions, language spoken in the Roman world of the first century.
